Questions to ask when Choosing a Lawn Mower

Want The Best Lawns In Town?
You need to think about what size lawn mower and what power rating will be needed so you know the lawn mower you choose is capable of doing the job it is bought for.
For most domestic sections in town or city, a walk behind mower, be it hand pushed, or with an electric or petrol engine should be sufficient. A larger section, or a need for ease of use, may warrant a self propelled mower. For larger lawns or speed of mowing you will need a ride on mower. Each of these types of mower have a range of engine sizes and cutting widths.
How flat is the area you want to mow?
Choosing a two or four stroke engine may be a personal choice, but if you have a steeply sloping site we would recommend a 2 stroke engine, or maybe one with a oil pump.
Would you like Easy Starting?
Some mowers have special features that ensure they are easier to start, such as an electric start. Investigate all the options if you have trouble starting mowers.
Do you want to Catch, Mulch or Discharge?
The quality of finish you are after, and the nature of the site you are mowing will help you decide on the best option. Some mowers are catch only, some only mulch (chop the grass finely and put back onto the lawn), and some will do both. Mulching helps to keep the moisture in, and to fertilize the lawn. There are also models which also allow you to side discharge.
Push or Self Propelled?
This may depend on how able you are or how large the site you are mowing. While the most common mower is a push mower some mowers have a self propulsion system to help take the strain and make it easier to mow your lawns.
Other Features, Improvements and Durability
You may have special requirements, such as the need to “chip” twigs or small branches – or to transport it in a vehicle. You may be better off with flail blades if you have stony ground etc. etc. Do you live near the sea on sandy soil – an alloy chassis may be the one for you. Do tell us all you can about what you mow so we can offer you the best advice.
